Grok Student Discount 2026: Free Tier and Trial Status

Students can use Grok’s general free tier, but xAI does not currently list a student-only plan or an EDU email redemption route.

Current status — checked August 8, 2026

Grok has a general $0 free tier with usage limits. xAI currently publishes no student discount, student plan, or EDU email activation flow for SuperGrok. Students can start with the same free plan available to other eligible users.

Searches for a “Grok student discount” often surface reports about limited campaigns or social posts from 2025. A current offer needs a current xAI claim page and terms. xAI’s present pricing page lists Free, SuperGrok, and other paid plans, but it does not show an education tier or student-verification route.

That does not mean students must pay to try Grok. The free plan provides access within xAI’s published limits. The honest offer is therefore free access for everyone who is eligible, not a premium trial unlocked by a college email.

Grok Free vs. SuperGrok

xAI describes its Free plan as a way to use Grok within generous limits. The current pricing page lists SuperGrok at $30 per month in the displayed U.S. view, with higher limits and additional capabilities. Pricing, taxes, billing channels, and features can vary or change, so check the final screen for your account.

PlanCurrent public positionStudent requirement
Grok Free$0 with usage or feature limits; includes core access such as web and X search according to xAI’s plan pageNone published; use a normal eligible account
SuperGrokPaid subscription with higher limits and broader model or feature accessNo student price or EDU verification route published
Grok through XAvailable to X users, while X Premium tiers can include higher Grok limitsNo current student plan shown in X Premium help
API / developer useSeparate usage-based developer product and billingNo general student API-credit offer published

Features are not interchangeable across grok.com, the X app, X Premium, and xAI’s developer platform. A consumer subscription does not automatically create API credit, and an X subscription may follow different terms from grok.com. Always read the plan name and billing owner before confirming payment.

How to start using Grok for free

  1. Visit an official entry point. Open grok.com or the official Grok app. You can also access Grok from the navigation in X where supported.
  2. Create or sign in to an account. Use accurate information and an email or social login you can recover. xAI’s consumer terms apply age and location rules.
  3. Remain on Free. If the account offers an upgrade, compare the displayed limits and renewal price before subscribing.
  4. Test the tasks you actually need. Use the free allowance for study explanations, brainstorming, coding questions, and research starting points before deciding whether higher limits are valuable.
  5. Verify important output. xAI warns that Grok can provide incorrect or incomplete information. Check facts against primary sources, especially for academic work.

Free limits can depend on system capacity and product changes. A limit message does not mean the student discount failed; it normally means the free allowance has been reached. Wait for the displayed reset or evaluate a paid plan instead of creating repeat accounts to evade limits.

Grok on X and X Premium trials

X’s help center says Grok is available to X users, while Premium and Premium+ can provide increased usage limits. X Premium is a separate paid subscription with its own localized prices and features. X currently does not advertise a general Premium free trial in its official help content, and it does not list a student tier.

Some institutions, companies, mobile carriers, or app stores may run their own bundles. Treat those as separate offers: verify the organizer, eligible country, account requirements, claim period, and renewal price. A carrier bundle is not proof that xAI has a universal student promotion.

xAI has also announced limited-time free access to particular developer experiences, such as promotional Grok model usage in Grok Build or partner tools. These campaigns can end without changing the main Grok Free plan. The official announcement date and present product screen should determine whether a developer promotion is still active.

Can an EDU email unlock SuperGrok?

No current xAI page says that a university email activates SuperGrok. Entering an education-style address does not create a student plan, increase limits, remove phone or payment requirements, or add API credits. Pages that make those promises are not describing xAI’s current public offer.

Do not use temporary email to evade limits. EduMails is designed for privacy, disposable registrations, and email testing. It is not a method for creating repeated Grok trials, avoiding a ban, or misrepresenting student status. Follow xAI’s account and acceptable-use terms.

For a long-term Grok account, choose an address you can recover. Conversations, subscription state, settings, and connected social data may be tied to the login. A temporary inbox is a risky recovery method for any paid or important account.

Grok privacy controls students should review

AI study conversations can contain names, assignments, unpublished research, or personal reflections. xAI and X publish separate privacy explanations, so review the settings in the product you use.

  • Training and fine-tuning: on X, open Settings and privacy, then Privacy & Safety, Data sharing and personalization, and the Grok controls. X explains how to opt out of certain model-training uses.
  • Personalization: review whether X data can personalize Grok responses and disable the option if it does not fit your needs.
  • Conversation history: use the available deletion controls when you no longer need a conversation, while recognizing that legal or security retention can still apply.
  • Academic confidentiality: never paste student records, private research data, exam materials, passwords, or confidential client information into a consumer AI tool without authorization.

An opt-out setting is not a substitute for data minimization. Redact sensitive facts before prompting, and follow your institution’s approved-tool policy.
